Psalms 2

The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed.

1 Why are ^athe ^{▼▼ Or Gentiles}nations in an uproar
And the peoples ^cdevising a vain thing?
2 The ^dkings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
^eAgainst the Lord and against His ^{▼▼ Or Messiah
,} ^gAnointed, saying,
3 “Let us ^htear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”

4 He who ^{▼▼ Or is enthroned}sits in the heavens ^jlaughs,
The Lord ^kscoffs at them.
5 Then He will speak to them in His ^langer
And ^mterrify them in His fury, saying,
6 “But as for Me, I have ^{▼▼ Or consecrated}installed ^oMy King
Upon Zion, ^pMy holy mountain.”

7 “I will surely tell of the ^{▼▼ Or decree: The Lord said to Me}decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are ^rMy Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 ‘Ask of Me, and ^sI will surely give ^tthe ^{▼▼ Or Gentiles}nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ^vends of the earth as Your possession.
9 ‘You shall ^{▼▼ Another reading is rule
,} ^xbreak them with a ^{▼▼ Or scepter or staff}rod of iron,
You shall ^zshatter them like ^{▼▼ Lit potter’s ware}earthenware.’”

10 Now therefore, O kings, ^abshow discernment;
Take warning, O ^{▼▼ Or leaders}judges of the earth.
11 ^{▼▼ Or Serve}Worship the Lord with ^{▼▼ Or fear
,} ^afreverence
And rejoice with ^agtrembling.
12 ^{▼▼ Lit Kiss; some ancient versions read Do homage purely, or, Lay hold of instruction}Do homage to ^aithe Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For ^ajHis wrath may ^{▼▼ Or quickly, suddenly, easily}soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who ^altake refuge in Him!
